Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel

   2010 Season Issue 9 : April 30th

MATCH REPORT : Has anyone got a defibrillator?

by Kate Buchanan
Wanted: One defibrillator to save the Central Pulse.
The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel this week became the latest ANZ Championship team to notch up an agonizingly large scoreline against the woeful cellar-dwellers, winning 64-40 in Wellington.
For Steel, the comprehensive victory – a new record for the Southerners – will help heal the wounds inflicted by the Queensland Firebirds last week and certainly puts its 2010 title quest back on track.
For Pulse, it will no doubt launch a myriad of questions about the viability of the franchise – but that's familiar territory for embattled coach Yvette McCausland-Durie. The Pulse have  slumped to just one win in 32 games since the inception of the trans-Tasman competition in 2008.

PLAYER PROFILE : Emma Moynihan

Her ANZ Championship debut came as a complete surprise to Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel defender Emma Moynihan – coach Robyn Broughton simply sprung it on her.
“I had no idea I was going on ... Rob just told me to go and warm up,” Moynihan said.
“It was exciting ... I was pretty nervous. The senior players were really good, telling me what to do and stuff. Once I had my first touch of the ball it was fine – it was really good.”
In fact, Moynihan nabbed two intercepts during her stint on court as the Steel walloped the Central Pulse 64-40 in Wellington on Monday night.
